CUBA: Habana, Havanna
The postcard (obtained from Scorpio) depicts Central Park in Havanna with the statue of José Martí. Marti (1853-1895) is a Cuban national hero. He was among others a poet, a writer, a journalist, a professor and a publisher. Most of his live was dedicated to make Cuba independent from Spain.
One of his poems was adapted to the song 'Guantanamera', which has become the patriotic song of Cuba.
The stamp on the left shows "La Bodequita del Medio" in Havanna. This world-famous café and restaurant was opened in 1942.
The menu is typically Cuban and is popular amoung many artists and writers. It is said that Ernest Hemingway was a regular customer to drink a 'mojito'.
